The Allegro- SHR technology employs low fluency, high average power, with superfast pulses. It does not solely target melanin as its principle chromophore. Instead focuses on progressively raising the temperature of the sub-dermal layer of the skin in a step-wise fashion. Allegro SHR raises and maintains the temperature to 45⁰C – 50⁰C, trapping the heat for prolonged time and thereby deactivating the surrounding biological markets (e.g.stem cells and enzymes) for permanent hair reduction.
Benefits of IPL Hair Reduction?
Depilatory methods such as shaving or chemical gels only remove hair at the surface of the skin, giving you very short term results. Slightly more long term are traditional epilation methods like wax or electric epilators that painfully pull the hair out somewhere along the shaft. Neither of these methods affects the most essential element necessary for hair growth – the bulb itself. Conversely, with IPL, you actually achieve permanent hair reduction. By gently removing the hair down to the source and damaging the bulb (root) IPL significantly disrupts hair regrowth. A IPL treatment is safe and effective and has absolutely no harmful side effects.
How does the treatment work?
The IPL light is attracted to the melanin in the hair. As long as there is melanin in the hair the treatment will be effective. A water based gel similar to ultrasound gel is applied to the skin to optimize the treatment. The IPL is applied to the skin to optimize the treatment. The IPL is applied to the skin and light energy passes through the applicator and is absorbed by the hair causing a heat reation and destroying the follicle.
What areas can be treated?
The treatment works with the melanin in the hair so as long as the hair is dark or has a dark root it can be treated. Conversely white hair, grey hair, red hair cannot be treated. It is also important to remember that melanin is found in the skin which is why it is important to treat darker skinned clients and tanned clients with less intensity to avoid heat build-up in the skin.
Does it hurt?
For most people there is virtually no pain. The feeling of the treatment is extremely variable from one person to another, it depends on the concentration of melanin in the skin and the size and density of the hair.
What should I Expect after Treatment?
In most cases, there are no visible effects. Therefore the treatment does not interfere with normal activities. Redness could appear on the skin indicating successful treatment. Hair is detached from its nourishment but it still remains in its sheath during the renewal of the epidermis (peeling). A light exfoliation 10 to 15 days after the session can speed up the rate at which the hair falls out.
How many sessions are required?
We recommend a course of 6 to 8 treatments initially and thereafter the customer may wish to have one or two top up treatments per year. Hair will become lighter and finer and more vellus like.
Does it give Permanent Results?
It will give you permanent hair reduction! Most hair will not grow back at all whilst other hair will grow back thinner and lighter. Why do we shave prior to treatment?
If hair is long it obstructs the path to the follicle which is where we need to treat. Stray hairs can also become attached to the applicator and damage the light guard, also causing burns on the skin. If the light guard is damaged the treatment cannot continue and the light guard must be replaced. All hair must be removed prior to treatment commencing and we use micropore tape to ensure area is completely free of loose, stray hairs. It is very important that you shave and bath prior to attending your appointment and do not apply any cosmetics. Shaving in the salon will require extra time and cost for your treatment.
How quickly will I recover?
You can resume regular daily activities immediately after treatment, However no sporting activities or spas, saunas, heat related treatments or massages for 24 hours.
Are there Any Side effects?
Typically most people experience a mild redness that usually subsides within a few hours. Also aloe vera can be used at home to soothe. In rare cases pigmentation can occur or blistering similar to sun damage, in this case a 1 % hydrocortisone cream can be applied.
