Vitamin D in Your Skin Care

Vitamin D is made in your skin from the Sun.  It is also found in vitamin D-rich foods such as oily fish, eggs and vegetables such as mushrooms and kale. Vitamin D is also found in Oranges, fortified milk and cereals.

The best time to dose your skin with vitamin D from the sun is before 10 am or after 3 pm for a short burst of 20 to 30 minutes each day by exposing your arms and face to absorb the radiation.

Be aware that as the skin is exposed to more sunlight and begins to tan, it will start to block the amount of vitamin D that it can synthesise.  Fair skins absorb sunlight the best as they do not have the buildup of melanin to prevent absorption of the sun’s rays.
