Patricia Boehler, founder of Dermal Essence
Early Life and Inspiration
Originally from Florida, USA, Patricia Boehler’s journey into skincare began in an unexpected place. At 11, her family immigrated to Australia, settling in the outback on a cattle station. Growing up in such a unique environment, Patricia spent her days riding horses, exploring the outback, camping, and learning to muster cattle.
During these formative years, Patricia observed the profound effects of harsh weather and sun exposure on everyone’s skin. This sparked her interest in understanding skin health and finding ways to counteract the damaging effects of age and the environment.
Early Career and Education
After relocating to Gosford with her two young children following Cyclone Tracey, Patricia decided to keep herself busy by pursuing a beauty therapy course at Madam Korner’s in Sydney in 1975. This decision marked the beginning of her illustrious career in skincare.
Returning to Darwin, Patricia worked with a mentor, Elsie Hogan, as a beauty therapist. Soon after, she took over the business of Celeste Beauty Salon on Cavanagh Street in Darwin. However, with the arrival of her third child, Patricia decided to step back from the business to focus on her family.
Despite the shift, her passion for skincare never waned. She remained deeply curious about the impact of the sun on the skin and sought to expand her knowledge.
A Career in Nursing
In 1983, Patricia embarked on a new journey as a hospital-trained nurse. As a single parent with three children in high school, she balanced her career and family life with remarkable resilience. Interestingly, she was often mistaken for the older sibling of her children, thanks to her youthful appearance.
Her nursing career spanned 18 years, during which Patricia gained invaluable insights into the human body and health. This experience provided her with a unique perspective on skincare, blending medical knowledge with beauty therapy.
Returning to the Beauty Industry
With a renewed vision, Patricia returned to the beauty industry, this time with an emphasis on scientific and holistic approaches to skincare. Over the years, she pursued continuous education and achieved several qualifications:
