Humectants
Humectants are water-loving, or hydrophilic ingredients that attract water. They do this by either drawing moisture from the air to the stratum corneum if humidity levels are high or from deeper levels of the dermis if the outside air is dry.
Types of Humectants Used in Dr Spiller Products

As you can see all 3 products have humectants and they are chosen for their ability to retain moisture.
In the Propolis Day Cream, the humectants are Royal Jelly – antibacterial bee secretion, and Lactic acid – Natural Moisturizing Factor
In the Propolis Night Cream, the humectant is Royal Jelly – antibacterial bee secretion
For the Rinazel Cream, the humectant is Lactic acid – Natural Moisturizing Factor
Royal Jelly
Honey is a natural humectant, a substance that can attract and retain moisture. Royal jelly is a gelatinous substance produced by honey bees to feed the queen bees and their young. The benefits of using this ingredient in products are:
- Keeps the skin hydrated and prevents dryness.
- Natural antimicrobial properties
- kills bacteria and other microorganisms on the skin.
Lactic Acid
This precious product attracts water for a hydrating and plumping effect.
It is also able to slough away a build-up of dead skin cells and rid the skin of any impurities and bacteria. It’s main benefits:
- derived from fruit sugars and soured milk
- reputation as being one of the most gentle AHAs – large molecular size
- unique trait of being a humectant to lock moisture into the skin
